New Experience

Old Navy is running a three day sale beginning today.  Today is 25% off, tomorrow 20%, and Tuesday 15%.  I have been looking at their maternity line for a while, putting off purchasing anything due to the fact that seasons will change soon and I am getting by with what I have right now.  But, Old Navy is running a three day sale beginning today.

So, my sweet mother advised me to order a couple of the dresses I have had my eye on and she would foot the bill.  She's good to me, have I mentioned that?  The question then became, what size do I order?

I had an encounter with Motherhood Maternity three weeks ago that did not end well and I am therefore forced to hate all that is maternity clothing.  They too were having a sale, a BOGO sale in fact.  I was by myself, I tried on the blasted belly they put in the dressing room, and left in tears.  Those of you who are or have been pregnant, I hope you are sympathizing with me.  My body is awkward right now.  Large and in charge,  jiggly and wiggly.  Needless to say, I let this sale pass.

But, Old Navy is having a sale.  And I have had my eye on a cute black maxi and a sweet multi colored dress that I would probably purchase if found in the non-maternity section.  And did I mention I am due in August?  AUGUST?!  This girl needs some dresses for the uncomfortable heat that is in my future.

So, I ordered.  I got a size up from normal, like I said large and in charge.  I immediately regretted my decision and texted a friend to ask if she had an opinion about the sizing.  She advised I order two sizes down from what I did!  I called Old Navy, canceled the order, and compromised with the size in the middle.

Old Navy is having a sale.  Ashley just had a 30 minute panic attack and must wait the 7-9 days to find out if the size I ordered will fit.

Good Grief.  Long journey ahead.

  1. I totally feel your pain. I had a similar experience like you at motherhood when I really wasn't in need of maternity clothes. Don't worry, they will eventually fit! UGH! I bought mediums in a lot of my stuff and that is what I wore before being preggo. The only that has not been so fun is the boob part....that makes you have to go sizes up that isn't needed any other areas. Let me know if you need anything! :)

    1. Thanks Nancy. I had these visions of being this posh, cute pregnant gal. The chest area is making this dream difficult, haha.

  2. The belly is not "realistic". But, it does help fill out the clothing while trying it on. :) I quit using it and just tried on a lot of things because like regular clothing, it varies from body type to body type.

  5. Ashley--until you are about 7-8mos pregnant, you will probably just wear your "normal" size in maternity clothes. Towards the end, a lot of women (myself included) could still wear their normal size, if it wasn't for the fact that their bellies pop out the bottom (why can't they make LONG maternity shirts?!) Good luck and don't worry--I am sure you will still be one chic pregnant lady!

  6. I never wore the belly in Motherhood Maternity because it is so unnaturalistic. I was an XL before I got pregnant and I wore all Large maternity outfits including shirts and dresses. Just thought I would tell you. Typically they say if you are a Small order small. Go with your true size that you are when not pregnant. I always liked trying things on and not guessing but heck you cant pass up a good deal.
